The Fine Art of Milgrain Engagment Rings

Dating as far back as 50-100 years ago, master jewelers sat behind benches for weeks on end, creating and designing beautiful antique and vintage engagement rings. During this crafting process, these jewelers used a technique known as Milgrain design. Simply defined in French, Milgrain means 1000 grains.

Is this a case of "All Things Must Pass?"

In the 1970's, George Harrison was seeing the demise of his great band and wrote the song, "All Things Must Pass."  Is this the case with the great 47th street?
It seems that two major factors are coming into play for this theory. 47th street in Manhattan, for those that don't know, is a street where you can purchase the finest GIA diamonds, antique jewelry and precious gems. From the 1950's to the present it has been the place where one can purchase a diamond for a thousand dollars or for millions of dollars. But the street we know, as a retail outlet, is changing.

Unique Vintage Engagement Rings

What Makes a Vintage Engagement Ring or Antique Ring Unique?
Though the terms “antique” and “vintage” are used interchangeably when describing engagement rings, the two are different. While they both are considered to be old-fashioned rings, vintage engagement rings are old-fashioned rings crafted in any era such as the Edwardian or Art Deco eras. Antique engagement rings are jewelry over 100 years old.
Vintage engagement rings are unique since they capture the spirit of the eras in which they were crafted. As an example, let’s look at rings from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Victorian rings exude the prosperity of that era through their large center stones while Edwardian rings showcase the lacy and filigree designs of that period.

Classic Solitaire Engagement Rings

One of our favorite pastimes at VintageDiamondRing.com is looking for beauty, and there is nothing we like more than finding beautiful, classic solitaire engagement rings. We have been traveling for over 30 years trying to find the finest, most pristine antique engagement rings, and old european cut diamonds. Like other websites we won’t mention, we didn’t go into the jewelry and diamond business because we couldn’t find the right diamond or because we were trying to find a conflict free diamond. While this is a noble pursuit, our immediate family has been buying and selling antique jewelry and diamonds since the 1950’s. You can say we have, proudly, grown up in the diamond and jewelry business.

What Are The Antique Diamond Cuts

With antique engagement rings being all the rage, and the demand increasing daily, we would like to take a look at the diamonds that master jewelers used for their wonderful rings decades ago. These special antique cut diamonds include old european cut, mine cut, antique cushion cut, french cut, navette cut, transitional cut, asscher cut, rose cut and single cut diamonds. In the early 1900’s diamond cutters did not have the knowledge, or equipment, to facet the diamonds. They were left with less facets than today’s modern brilliant cut which gave the less stated look. We all love vintage diamond rings, so let’s take a look at these wonderful diamonds from many years ago.

It’s Oscar Time!

Spring is our favorite time of year. The weather is changing and the flowers are blooming, but the real reason we love spring is because it’s Oscar time!!
We absolutely love the oscars, and this year is no exception. With Chris Rock hosting, and great movies like “Stoplight” and “The Big Short,” vieing for the big win, it will be an unforgettable evening. But, truth be told, we don’t love the Oscars because of the movies. We love all of the jewelry worn by the celebrities. We love to see what the stars are wearing. Will it be a big diamond engagement ring, antique jewelry, or a diamond necklace? This year’s show certainly did not disappoint.

Gemstone Engagement Rings

Emeralds have been a wonderful choice of brides throughout history. The finest emeralds have been mined in Columbia, and the finest mine in Columbia is the infamous ” Muzo” mine. The Muzo emerald mine has produced the finest emeralds throughout history, especially during the mid century 1950’s throughout the 1970’s. More recently we have noticed that antique emerald rings have been very popular with our customers as well, and that is why we travel throughout the world looking for pristine vintage emerald rings. The emerald is the birthstone for May, and has been known to increase the spirit of the person wearing that gemstone. It is a soft gemstone, so master jewelers have to pay close attention when removing or resetting this spectacular gem, so it does not become harmed.
