Something Old, Something New, Borrowed and Something Blue!

I heard an old song today, and it reminded me of my favorite old radio station WNEW FM. Am I showing my age again!? Well, why am I writing about WNEW FM on an antique engagement ring blog? Because I remember a DJ on WNEW who had a segment called "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed and Something Blue." I think of the time honored tradition of brides to be trying to include these types of things in their ensembles on their wedding day. I also think of vintage rings, and how we can incorporate this. "Something old" is a a beautiful antique engagement ring. "Something new" could be an estate micropave ring. "Something borrowed," to me, is a beautiful vintage engagement ring, and "something blue" is a sapphire or aquamarine engagement ring. This wonderful saying means as much to brides, and antique lovers, today than it did in the 1970's or the 1930's. We welcome you to view our wonderful something old, new, borrowed and blue vintage engagement rings . Enjoy!
Something Old: Antique Engagement Ring
When i think of "Something Old" I think of a dazzling antique engagement ring, or maybe a stunning Art Deco engagement ring with sapphires. Something old would include a beautiful mine cut diamond with beautiful filigree embellishments, usually in platinum circa 1920's or 1930's.

Affordable Platinum Engagement Rings

one word master jewelers throughout the eras in history including Art Deco , Edwardian, and the 1950s to the present day, can agree upon is "Platinum." Platinum is the finest metal for jewelers to use to make their one of a kind masterpieces. Platinum is a durable metal, yet its secret is that it is the softest metal for jewelers to work with. White gold over time will lose a bit of its color, but this will never happen with platinum. Large diamonds, gorgeous Art Deco rings, or the beautiful filigree embellishments from the Edwardian eras are all produced with platinum. Beautiful large gemstones from the 1960's reside in platinum with baguette or trillion cut diamond accents. Antique earrings or romantic art deco bracelets with sapphire or ruby gemstones are always produced in platinum. Platinum will make your mine cut, emerald cut, or asscher cut diamond look stunning. Let's give a big thanks to all the wonderful jewelers for using our favorite metal platinum. A little secret, platinum is a great metal and you will be able to find an affordable, unique engagement ring you can cherish for a lifetime. Maybe you even pass your platinum ring down for generations to enjoy! Here are 5 affordable engagement rings in platinum you will love!

Art Deco Diamond Rings in Platinum

One of our favorite combinations is the fabulous Art Deco era with our favorite metal platinum. For vintage and antique lovers throughout the world, this is a must have combination. We all know that Art Deco diamond rings are bold, and exhilarating, with designs including geometric and hexagonal frames embellished with hand crafted milgrain and filigree designs. All of these beautiful designs were done by master craftsmen. They created rings in platinum, which allowed jewelers to do work they couldn't produce in gold. This is because platinum is a softer metal than gold. Art Deco diamond rings, and Art Deco jewelry, can not be replicated today with computer simulations, molds, or models. We love art deco diamond diamond rings, and here are 4 antique rings you can treasure for a lifetime.

How Do We Come To The Price Of an Antique Engagement Ring?

Antique engagement rings are truly one of a kind, and timeless. Yet a question we are always asked by couples is, "what do antique engagement rings cost, and what factors add to this?" There are many factors that go into the pricing of an Antique or . Art Deco engagement rings , and we will list them. However, most importantly, is buying a unique antique engagement ring you will love. One that shows who you are, and you can enjoy for a lifetime!
Metal
One of the most important factors in pricing an antique engagement ring is what metal the ring is made out of. Platinum the most popular metal, will always be the most expensive metal. It is the softest metal, and the easiest metal that master jewelers worked with decades ago.

Antique engagement rings with latticework are beautiful works of art that were produced with the finest platinum metals from the Art Deco and Edwardian eras. Antique engagement rings with latticework cannot be reproduced today. Here are four (4) stunning antique engagement rings you will love!

Art Deco Engagement Rings: They Don't Make Them Like That Anymore!

I was driving with my husband and two children to the beach a few weeks ago and noticed a row of beautiful old colonial houses. Then a beautiful old Cadillac passed us by, and I thought, "my goodness, they just don't make houses or cars like that anymore!" It's the same with vintage engagement rings , they just don't make engagement rings like they used to. Today, engagement rings are made using rubber molds, or by computer simulation. Decades ago during the Victorian, Art Deco or Edwardian eras, master jewelers actually sat behind a bench for weeks on end working on their future masterpieces. These pieces had the stunning handcrafted bold designs of the Art Deco era, beautiful rose gold settings from the Victorian era, and gorgeous milgrain emebllishments from the Edwardian era. Here are five beautiful vintage engagement rings that you will love!

Art Deco Engagement Rings
They sure don't make them like this anymore, and they really can't! Bezel Set Engagement Rings

One of our favorite types of antique engagement rings , which arguably is overlooked, is the bezel set engagement ring. Bezel set engagement rings were popular throughout many decades, including Victorian, Art Deco and the Mid Century. Mine cut and old European cut diamonds look beautiful when bezel set. Precious and semi precious gems, such as aqua, emerald, aquamarine , and garnet also look stunning when bezel set. A bezel setting surrounds the gem with a thin piece of metal which looks beautiful, and also supports the gem completely. A vintage bezel engagement ring is classic, and elegant. Here's some of our favorite bezel set engagement rings!

Vintage Bezel Set Aquamarine Engagement Ring
This beautiful vintage ring features a bezel set, pear cut aquamarine, weighing approximately 1.25 carat and is surrounded by twelve european cut diamonds, all residing in a 1970's white gold setting.
